I wear a pair of Sperry Gold Cup sandals (without) socks when I entertain patients.

One day a male patient about my age sat up as I started playing, and said, “I love those shoes.” He made me take them off for his inspection and commented on how cool they were. His daughter sat at his bedside and explained how her dad had always had a thing for shoes. I sang him country songs and he sang along. I met her in the hallway about a week later and she explained that her father had passed away, and added, “We bought a pair of those sandals to bury him in.” Brought tears to my eyes.
